Christmas 2006
We broke our tradition this weekend! For those of you who don't know about the Thirtyacre Family tradition of tree hunting, it goes something like this....
1. First you wait until Daddy has a really nasty cold
2. Then you wait for the worst rainy, yucky cold day of the year (it has to be really rainy to get just the right amount of mud!)
3. Next, you go the 3-4 Christmas Tree places looking for the "perfect" tree, that is less expensive than the tree from last year..
4. After much driving around, and spending way to much money is gas, you finally decide to go back to Hunters for the "perfect" way to expensive tree....
5. The problem now, is that it is nearly dark, 5 minutes before close, but Mama doesn't want to go home and come back out, becuase the kids looks so cute bundled up, ready for picture....
6. So we dash into Hunters and make Daddy hold up every possible tree, and using the light of the camera, pick the most perfect tree...and plop down $50 bucks..
SO THIS YEAR....vowing to be less pick and needing to be more frugal...WE changed out tradition. And I should get xtra bonus points for being flexible...
Christmas 2008
1. First we attempted to get the tree on Friday, which was a beautiful day. But by the time we were all ready to go, it was nearly dark, so.... FLEXIBLE POINT #1, I agreed to get our tree the next day, so instead we went to the Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting. It was beautiful, I fed the kids chocolate and cookies to keep them quiet while we waited. We saw the much talked about Atheist sign (which you would think would be more than an ugly carboard poster) and it was properly dwarfed by the nativity scene. Then we went home and had pizza and put the kids to bed...still no tree
2. SATURDAY- A beautiful sunny day...
3. We joined our friends Chris, Leah and Alex at the Baker Ames Tree Farm. All doug firs were $15 dollars, so we were on the hunt! Riley was such a trooper as he walked through rows of trees with weeds standing taller than him. Jaden was happy because he had a saw
Jaden's Ready!
3. After much walking and searching, we found the "perfect" tree! Can I just say now, that trees look smaller in the field???
4. Daddy sawed down the tree and hauled it a VERY long way back to the truck, while the little boys played with a little tree..

5. Thus, a new Thirtyacre tradition has been born.
More to come...
